Description: A gospel-inspired musical about Curtis, an African American  would-be entrepreneur, Alycea, a church going woman, Tracy, her fellow churchwoman, and Kato, a gang member who infiltrates the church, and how their lives intertwine around a gang scheme to recover illicit drugs church pastor Goodall confiscated from a drug dealer. *Rara Avis (Rare Bird) Production History: Featured production at the Celebrate The Glory Of Sugar Hill Festival (2009). +The Deep Valley Boys. Description: The play features a journey in the present toward tolerance on the part of a teen (Michael) and his father, and a battle against homophobia in the past by his dead uncle roland, formerly a member of a famous singing group. The story takes place in the narrative present (1993) and in the 1950s. The play showcases the music of the historical group, The Deep River Boys, who recorded and performed for over 20 years in the US and overseas, while following conflicts among members of the fictional Deep Valley Boys over the gay relationship between Roland and the piano player. In the process Michael discovers the key to setting his own boy band up for success, and brings closure to his uncle’s affairs by reuniting Roland with his lover in death.
